Review: Obagi C5 Plus VE

Review: Obagi C5 Plus VE

I used 2 bottles of this Japanese product about 2 months ago and now I want to put my two cents in. Before that, let’s get to know this guy first. Obagi (pronounced as o-ba-ji) vitamin C serum appears to have 3 variants respectively this one, C10 (which comes in two sizes, regular and large), and C20. Each differs in functions and vitamin C concentration. C5 has the lowest while C20 has the highest vitamin C concentration. All of them contains vitamin E as well. For now, let’s place C5 under the spotlight.

Obagi C5 Plus VE 10mL, 3,000JPY (tax excluded)

  1. Incorporated with vitamin E that moisturizes the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of the skin.
  2. Can brighten the face.
  3. Can solve skin issues such as texture and roughness which is its main function.
  4. Made in Japan

  1. Use this after cleansing and toning your face.
  2. Use twice daily. Morning and night.
  3. Always apply sunscreen after the serum in the morning to avoid burns.
  4. Take an appropriate amount (3 to 4 drops) in the palm and let it fit on your face like so in the video below.

I finally decided to give this one a go after some consideration. I was scared that it might not be suitable for my acne-prone skin. Other skin issues I have are dullness, acne scars, enlarged pores, fine lines, reddish, and dark spots. Another thing that kept me from giving in was the price. This is the reason why I stopped using it after 2 bottles, but it doesn’t affect my thoughts on this in any way. I was able to use finish 2 bottles in a month. I’ll be upfront about my experience through the following questions.

  1. Did it moisturize my skin? Yes, and it didn’t trigger acne.
  2. Did it brighten my skin? I didn’t see any noticeable brightening effect after using it for a month.
  3. Did it minimize the roughness of my skin? Yes. My skin felt smooth after about a week. Not totally, but it did make a bit of a difference.

  1. Light to the skin
  2. No sticky feeling
  3. With a citrus scent that doesn’t linger
  4. Easy to apply
  5. Moisturizing
  6. Doesn’t cause acne or rashes

  1. The brightening effect can’t be noticed immediately.
  2. There’s a tingling sensation. (As for me, it went on for almost 2 weeks.)
  3. Peeling occurs. (I experienced it for almost 2 weeks as well. It was mild, though.)
  4. Pricey
  5. Its packaging can cause oxidation which may interfere with the total benefits of the serum. That’s why you have to finish the bottle as soon as possible once you open it.

For the most part, the product is okay for me especially with how it made my skin smooth and never caused acne. If you’re prepared to overlook the price, you might want to give it a try! Whenever I have the chance, I’d definitely try C10 next time. It costs more, but it claims to do more. Stay tuned!
