Having such easy access to a few of the best spots to bask in the beauty of cherry blossoms in spring is one of the perks of living in Saitama. You just have to find a good source and you’ll be in the know. I’m trying to be one just for you. Don’t forget to subscribe!
If you’re planning on visiting Japan to see sakura, I suggest that you come here between late March and early April. You can catch sakura in its full bloom glory. Look for a place somewhere in Saitama City or Omiya City so you can have easy access to the beautiful hanami (flower/sakura viewing) sites.
Today’s location is the well known Kumagaya Sakura Tsutsumi. About 500 sakura trees stand in elegance along Arakawa river with a span of roughly 2 km. It’s been popular since the Edo period in which I understand why. My husband and I certainly were fortunate to experience and see the place with our own eyes.

Below the crest of the bank, a cherry blossom channel awaits you. It’s also where the food stalls are set up.

Another thing that makes this place special is when the rape blossoms are also in full bloom, you’ll be able to witness a fascinating contrast of colors.

If I have to look for the downside, I think it’s the unkempt toilets. I’m not certain if it’s caused by people or not, but I hope it won’t be the same when I visit the place again in the future. Parking is free but it might be a little difficult to find a spot when it’s jam-packed. Don’t forget to add this place to your hanami spots list!
