Review: Shiseido AQUALABEL Special Gel Cream (White)

Shiseido’s Aqualabel Special Gel Cream (White) is an intense gel cream formulated with the active brightening substance 4MSK, designed to inhibit melanin production and ward off dark spots and freckles. This product is part of Aqua Label, a well-known skincare line created by Shiseido, which is recognized for its simple-to-use products that promote clear, strong, and radiant skin. Intrigued to see the effects it would have on my dark spots, I eagerly purchased it.

MORE FEATURES

  1. 5-in-1 gel cream (toner, body milk, cream, beauty serum, and face mask).
  2. Gives moisturizing and whitening effects.
  3. With a gentle herbal rose scent.

    HOW TO USE:

Apply one almond-sized dab of the cream to your whole face (I always include my neck) using your fingertips after cleansing your face. Use morning and night daily.

PROS

  1. Refined packaging. Easy to dispense.
  2. Nice scent.
  3. Penetrates into the skin quickly.

CONS

  1. It didn’t really moisturize my face from day one to two.
  2. I was forced to cease applying the cream to my face after only two days of use due to a negative reaction from my skin. I developed rash-like symptoms on my cheeks and the front area of my neck. Initially, I suspected the new toner I began using at the same time, but once I stopped using this cream, the itchiness on my cheeks vanished completely within a few days. However, I’m still left with some dark and reddish marks on my neck. I’ve attached a photo I took this morning. The area is still somewhat itchy, but it seems to be on the mend, thanks to some leftover medication from a Japanese skin clinic where I underwent acne treatment last year. I’m hoping that this incident won’t result in any permanent scarring.

Final Thoughts

It seems that this product might be too strong for my sensitive skin. Instead of discarding it, I’ll repurpose it as a body lotion, hoping that it won’t cause further irritation. It’s difficult for me to simply throw it away, especially considering its cost, which wasn’t insignificant for me. Now, I’m on my way to purchase a new moisturizer.

I wouldn’t want anyone else to go through what I experienced. The fear of it leaving dark marks on my cheeks was quite unnerving, but thankfully, that didn’t happen. This incident highlights the risks associated with trying new products, which is why I make it a point to provide honest reviews. My aim is to warn or inform others about specific products, ensuring that they are aware of potential issues.

Have you tried this gel cream? I would love to hear about your experience.

  1. Thanks for the review, great post. I wonder if maybe you need to work into your skincare routine slowly. To reduce dark spots it would need some kind of ingedrient such as niacinamide, tranexamic acid or vitamin c or something to that effect. Does it show you the ingredients?

  2. Thank goodness for your honest review. Maybe and this is just a suggestion send the company an email explaining what happened when you used their product? Maybe you could get a refund? Let me know!

    1. I wish I could speak Japanese very well so I could do your brilliant suggestion. Their official website doesn’t really support English customer service at the moment. My husband doesn’t want to cooperate. He thinks it’ll take time. 😀
