Tokyo Acne Clinic: First Impression

東京アクネクリニック (Tokyo Acne Clinic) specializes in high-quality acne (ニキビ, nikibi) treatment and claims to be highly effective. Apart from that, they also offer solutions to other various skin problems. It’s one of the reasons why my husband suggested this. It’s a well-known fact that there are a lot of skin clinics here in Japan but finding one that would surely meet your goals and needs is quite a challenge. Much more when your Japanese is very limited. Fortunately, I have someone I can rely on when it comes to things like this.

Researching

Before deciding on this one, I did some research and read reviews on other clinics. One clinic that has English-speaking specialists came up first but some of the reviews weren’t pleasing to me. I didn’t want to take the risk on it so I chose to be somewhere out of my comfort zone, however, this one seems different from that clinic. From this day onwards, I’ll be sharing this journey with you.

Access

Just this morning, I went down to the bustling area of Shinjuku to make my very first visit to this clinic. It’s located within a minute walk from Shinjuku Station which is pretty convenient for my husband since his workplace is just nearby.

Making an appointment

Prior to visiting, you should make an appointment via online as per their rule. Take note that their website is only in Japanese so you might as well have someone who can assist you with it. Once you’re done with it, you’ll receive an email from them to confirm your reservation.

Landmark

I had mixed emotions on our way to the site which is on the 6th floor of Tokyo K Shin Building in Shinjuku. Your landmark should be Wendy’s First Kitchen from the South Exit or Lumine Exit of the station. We got there 20 minutes earlier than our schedule but the amiable staff didn’t hesitate to entertain us immediately.

Arrival

The reception area wasn’t the size I expected. It was a bit small but it didn’t bother me at all because there were no other patients there yet. Its tidiness made up for its size somehow. We were taken to one of their well-kept counseling rooms with the size just a little smaller than the receiving area and were asked to fill out a form which was done by my husband since it was in Japanese.

Counseling

Not long after that, the female dermatologist came in and jumped right into the counseling. It included clear and concise details about acne and the recommended treatments with a cordial ambiance which is something I was glad about.

Treatment details

As soon as it was decided, the female staff then explained what kind of treatment/s I’d be getting and the duration, price, and so on which was done smoothly. Just like the dermatologist, she was polite enough to give my husband the ample time to explain the major points to me in English. I didn’t sense any vibe of annoyance from them.

Signing

To finish the business, I was asked to sign some documents that consist of important details of my treatment which were handed to me afterward.

All of these happened in less than 2 hours without any trouble. I felt good about it and I can’t wait to go there again to receive my first treatment which will happen tomorrow. I’ll upload photos of my current skin situation on my next post.
