Clementi Hong Kee Villa: Best Chicken Rice in Clementi Market

Hainanese chicken rice is considered one of Singapore’s national dishes. It’s a must-try dish of poached chicken and seasoned rice, served with chili sauce and usually comes with cucumber garnishes.

During my first trip to Singapore 2 years back, one of the goals was to give this a go and so we did. However, I can’t remember exactly how it was or if I even liked it. So this time around, thank God I was able to tantalize my tastebuds with this dish yet again and I’d like to share my personal favorite chicken rice spot with you. Together with my traveling companions, I had the chance to round up a few stalls and the last spot turned out to be the best.

This humble spot is installed in Clementi Market and Hawker Centre which is right outside The Clementi Mall. You can easily locate it as it’s nearby the hawker centre’s entrance. Just look for the one that has the letter B.

My sister wasn’t wrong for introducing this to me. Unlike the other spots I previously visited, this one serves the dish with dark soy sauce.

It was cheap, yet tasted much better than the pricey ones I had. Both rice and chicken were nicely cooked. Less oily but the rice itself was flavorful. The chicken’s flavor didn’t disappear despite being accompanied with that sweet dark soy sauce. Its sweetness was just right. I decided not to mix in the chili sauce as it was already good without it. Besides, the sun was blazing already. No need for more hotness. Furthermore, dining at the hawker centre made the experience more Singapore-ish. I dined with the locals around me and felt comfortable. That moment was priceless!
