Review: Matsumoto Kiyoshi Blanc White Series

Matsumoto Kiyoshi (マツモトキヨシ) is a popular drugstore in Japan that carries not only health products but also cosmetics, skincare products, and everyday goods. In 2017, If I’m not mistaken, they released their own line named Blanc White. It consists of 7 products namely Clear Lotion, Whitening Lotion Moist (for oily skin to normal skin), Whitening Lotion Rich Moist (for dry to combination skin) Whitening Milk, Whitening Essence, Whitening Day Milk UV, and Whitening Mask. Due to my dark spots caused by acne, I decided to try this line as it promises to whiten skin. All products aren’t cheap for me so I had to skip the sunscreen and mask. Here are the 4 products that I’ve been using for months now.

Blanc White Clear Lotion

160mL 2,700JPY (tax excluded)

This lotion gently removes dead skin which is apparently the cause of dullness. Contains birch extract to make skin soft.

How to use: After washing the face, gently wipe this lotion with a cotton (2 pumps). Use day and night.

Blanc White Whitening Lotion (Rich Moist)

How to use: After facial cleansing or facial lotion, take an appropriate amount in your palm or cotton and let it gently pad on your whole face (2 pumps). Use day and night.

Blanc White Whitening Milk

Blanc White Whitening Essence

50mL 5,000JPY (tax excluded)

A moisturizing and whitening serum which inhibits the formation of melanin and prevents spots and freckles. Incorporated with Vitamin C and an active anti-inflammatory ingredient.

How to use: After the lotion, take an appropriate amount in the palm of your hand, put on the face in a tapping motion (1 pump). Use day and night.

PROS

  1. These products are in plastic bottles with a pump which makes it easy to dispense.
  2. They don’t cause acne.
  3. They are truly moisturizing. They kind of balance the moisture.
  4. So easy to apply.
  5. They don’t mess up with my makeup.
  6. No itching or burning sensation.
  7. First few days, I experienced some mild peeling and it was totally painless.
  8. They leave my face a bit plump, especially in the morning.
  9. All products have a light scent that quickly disappears.
  10. They’re absorbed quickly.
  11. There’s a brightening effect.
  12. The dark spots caused by acne have lightened a bit.

CONS

  1. Expensive
  2. There’s no noticeable dramatic change even if I’ve used these products for about 4 months.

The brand mentions that these products work deep within the skin first so this is probably the reason why the visible results are kind of slow. I can see the brightening effect instead of whitening. I’ll just keep using them until they’re all finished but I won’t repurchase. With the price, I can’t be patient anymore. What Japanese brands do you recommend? Share in the comments below!
