Saitama Travel Guide: Sayama Lake

Sayama Lake, also known as Yamaguchi Reservoir is actually a reservoir where Tokyo’s fresh water comes from. The water originates from the mountains in the north-west of the city. It’s just one of the two huge reservoirs. The other one is Tama Lake which is situated in Tokyo. The two are stationed in two different prefectures but are surprisingly in walking distance.

Exploring the interesting prefecture I’m currently in, which is Saitama has been set as a goal so the expedition begins here.

Getting there might be a little confusing due to its location. And it takes roughly 15 minutes to get there from Seibukyujo-Mae Station. You don’t have to worry about getting lost because there are signs guiding you to the site and the locals are there to instruct you the way. You just have to be lucky enough to meet someone who can speak English. You can also consult Mr. Google of course. In my experience, I went there with my sister and a Japanese friend, we used Google Maps and at some point had to ask somebody because at first we failed to notice the signs. Getting there by car is I can say a convenient thing to do.

As soon as we made it to the lake, if I have to speak for my girls as well, we were flabbergasted at the scenic views. The cool breeze and the placid area washed away our exhaustion. It felt like I was freed from captivity. Yes, my imagination is exaggerating things. LOL

Since the lake has a vital role in the city, it’s prudently cordoned off which means, fishing, boating, swimming, or the likes are strictly prohibited. People enjoy there by looking at the panoramic views, the beautiful sunset, strolling, taking pictures, having a picnic, walking with their pets, and so on as long as it doesn’t affect the lake. On fair days between late October and early March, you can get a marvelous view of Mount Fuji. Unfortunately, we were there early May so Mount Fuji was barely visible. However, that didn’t stop me from admiring such a picturesque place.
