Residing in Saitama comes with its fair share of perks, one of which is the close proximity to some of the most breathtaking sakura (cherry blossom) viewing spots in springtime. Keeping your finger on the pulse of these locations is all it takes, and I’m here to be your guide in this mesmerizing journey. Make sure to subscribe to stay updated!
For all you sakura enthusiasts planning a trip to Japan, mark your calendars for the period between late March and early April. This is when the sakura blossom unveils its full vibrant beauty. Ideally, find accommodation in Saitama City or Omiya City for seamless access to the mesmerizing hanami (flower/sakura viewing) spots.
The gem we are exploring today is the renowned Kumagaya Sakura Tsutsumi. This beautiful site boasts approximately 500 sakura trees, poised majestically along the banks of the Arakawa River extending across a span of around 2 kilometers. It has been a much-loved destination since the Edo period and understandably so. My husband and I were blessed to behold this spectacle personally.
Beneath the riverbank’s crest, a delightful cherry blossom promenade awaits your visit, hosting a variety of food stalls.
Adding to the unique charm of this place is the magical sight when the rape blossoms also reach their full bloom, creating an enchanting contrast of colors.
If there’s a slight hiccup, it would be the state of the restrooms, which were unfortunately unkempt during our visit. Whether this was a consequence of the large crowd or otherwise is uncertain. I hope this issue will be rectified in the future. Parking is freely available, although it might prove challenging to secure a spot during peak hours.
Don’t forget to add Kumagaya Sakura Tsutsumi to your hanami spots list! It’s a wonder that will leave you enthralled and yearning for more.
