Bali Trip Chronicles: The Super Delayed Flight

Day 1

July 7, 2016 (Thursday)

I couldn’t get myself to slumberland the night before the flight. Too much excitement filled our bedroom apart from the husband’s loud snores. 😂✌

Tossing and turning while fantasizing how our first trip abroad after marriage would turn out. Okay, shall I call it our honeymoon? Sort of a late honeymoon. And Bali, Indonesia was the deal.

Danny had to do some work before the flight in the evening. Everything was all packed up 3 days before our departure. I was pleased to see all our things (good for 4 days and 3 nights) arranged in one luggage. Not a big one. The goal of having to carry one small luggage and our small shoulder bags was totally achieved. Thanks to the power of rolling!

Around 6pm we headed to Narita International Airport for the flight at 9pm. The excitement was starting to elevate but I managed to compose myself. In the middle of our train journey to the airport, Danny got a call from someone who I thought was a colleague. The way he talked to the person on the other line was something I wouldn’t mistake for a problem. As soon as he hung up, words that were not so delightful came out of his careful mouth.

“Shay, we have to go back home. It was from the China Airlines. Our flight is delayed.”

The train made a stop at a station which I couldn’t remember. Then he took my hand and got off the train.

Delayed. This word echoed in my ear. I processed what he just said and asked him why we had to get off and immediately go back home without asking any confirmation at the airport. He explained why. Turned out that our flight from Narita to Taiwan for the layover was changed to 11:40am on the next day due to some climate impact. We were supposed to arrive at Denpasar International Airport around 3pm the next day. The layover was kind of long but it was fine without the delay. The colorful feelings I had became plain…gray. It was the bad weather. Okay.

I tried to understand the situation but I was a little upset and vented it on Danny which something I was so sorry for. He even showed me the notice posted on the website of China Airlines. Guilt got me when he decided to go to the airport and somehow ease my being upset. Oh boy was I so mean! Got to the airport around 8 and hurried our way to the check-in counter. There. Reality struck! I saw no queue except for one small family talking to one of the airlines staff. Seemed to me that the father asked about the delay. Danny approached one lady and she promptly asked for our passports. I was hoping she could do something for us to fly that evening. She guided us to another officer and handed us a piece of paper with something written in Japanese, Mandarin and English. I read it and still they declared the flight was off tomorrow, 11:40Am to Taiwan. Apology accepted, now what?

I don’t know but at that moment I didn’t have the energy to go back home so I suggested that we would just spend the night there until the flight. Still a little hopeful that any minute of the night, they would call us for a different flight but nothing happened. I gave up hoping and looked for a place to recline. We tried to check-in at a capsule hotel in the airport but unfortunately there was no capsule available for women anymore. We ended at a line of seats and saw other passengers there, too! I suddenly remembered The Terminal the moment we had a bite of McDonald’s on the seats which were our temporary bedroom and dining room. 😀

The sun swiftly went down and up the next day which I assumed that time was on our favor. It didn’t make us feel like waiting forever. New day! Not upset anymore. 🙂

Honestly, I wasn’t able to get some z’s but it felt great to get up to a new day, a new chance, and a trip to look forward to. I prayed it would be the safest flight. We looked for a diner to have our breakfast. Found a good one and enjoyed a Japanese-style morning meal.

Little did we know that something good awaited us. As soon as we lined up to check-in, the attendant informed us about our new flight. It was a direct flight from Narita to Denpasar via Garuda Indonesia airlines at 11:00am. 40 minutes earlier than the schedule they gave us yesterday and no need for that long layover. It brought joy to me and I thought our little sacrifice at the airport paid off.

We flew and had to be up on the clouds for about 6 hours before getting to our destination. How was the flight? Well, it was my first time to be on a flight that had to pass some turbulence almost every few minutes. Made me queasy and fortunately overcame that part of the longest journey thus far. The weather was still a bummer but thank God we arrived safe and sound. 🙂

  1. I have been surfing online more than three
hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours.
It is pretty worth enough for me. In my opinion,
if all site owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the net will be a lot more useful than ever before.
