How To Get A Pre-marriage Counseling Certificate (Philippines)

Attending a pre-marriage counseling seminar is the next thing to do after getting the Barangay Certificate. This seminar basically takes place in your local City Social Welfare Services office. The couple’s personal appearance is highly needed. Ask for the schedule of the seminar beforehand. After the seminar, a certificate will be given to you which is one of the requirements when applying for a marriage license in the Philippines.

Procedure:

  1. Go to your local City Health office and bring with you the Barangay Certificate.
  2. Pay for the seminar certificate.
    *For both Filipinos: Php 30.25
*For a Foreigner Partner: Php 60.50
  3. Keep the official receipt.
  4. Make one copy each of your Barangay Certificate and pre-marriage counseling seminar certificate receipt.
  5. Go to your local City Social Welfare Services (CSWS) office. It’s important that you visit a day prior to the scheduled seminar to ensure all necessary preparations are in place.
  6. Hand in the photocopies. You will be asked to fill out a form.

NOTE: The process can differ depending on the specific regulations of each city.

Be prepared for the seminar to last between three to four hours, typically held in the morning. Please note, the primary languages used during the session are usually Cebuano or Tagalog. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

  2. Hi Ms. Sheryl Kim.

    Good Day!

I found this article of yours very helpful to me especially now that me and my korean partner plans to get married. At first, I was very confuse what steps to do in marrying a foreign partner. Thankfully I found your article/blog and this is now what I am following as I find it very easy to follow with the detailed steps and instructions provided.

I just have to verify few information regarding some of the documents mentioned.

From Step 1 to Step 3, one of the requirements is the PSA Cenomar Certificate and all states Documents submitted must be Original.

Do we really have to get more than 1 original copy of this certain document? Like the other similar documents needed as well on other steps?

I just want to make sure po and to prepare ahead.
    Thank you so much.

    1. Thanks for asking. Yes, you need to provide original copies. The CENOMAR for example, it’s not difficult. You only have to indicate the number of copies upon request. It’s better to be prepared than sorry.

Congratulations on your engagement! Best wishes! 🙂
